Tell us about your organization in a nutshell?

Seattle Pacific Athletics is a NCAA Division II program that is home to 13 varsity sports including: Men’s/Women’s Basketball, Men’s/Women’s Cross Country, Gymnastics, Rowing, Men’s/Women’s Soccer, Men’s/Women’s Track & Field (indoor/outdoor), and Volleyball. We have two main competition spaces: Royal Brougham Pavilion (located in Queen Anne) and Interbay Stadium (located in Interbay). SPU teams have won 9 national championships: five in men’s soccer, three in women’s gymnastics, and one in women’s soccer. We have also had over 80 individuals win a national title. No matter which sporting event(s) you choose to attend, we guarantee you will have a fun, family-friendly experience! Only about 1% of our student-athletes will go on to play professionally so, we are proud of the holistic approach that our program takes to bring up strong athletes AND students and try to share this with all of our visitors and fans whenever possible.

How long has your organization been a member of Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce?
Very recently! We were grateful to join the Queen Anne Chamber in July 2019.

How long is your organization in QA community and how does your organization get involved in the community?

SPU was founded in 1891, so we have been in the QA community for a while! But, that doesn’t mean we’ve always done a great job getting involved. Integrating with the community and being a “hub” for many community members to come together has been a goal of mine since I came to SPU Athletics in June 2019. With such a great community surrounding us, it seemed like a no-brainer that we would open our doors to schools, clubs, and other organizations and partner together to create fun, meaningful events and memories. The Queen Anne Chamber has definitely assisted in these efforts as we have had the privilege of joining in on a number of different events including: Trick-or-Treating on the Ave, the Holiday Tree Lighting, and hosting an After-Hours Networking Event (coming up on Feb 11th! Hope to see you there!) The Chamber has also been helpful in introducing us to a number of businesses in order to promote their brand through a sponsorship deal. We are proud to partner with local nonprofits and are working hard to get involved with schools. There are so many ways that we’d love to get more involved with the Queen Anne community! If you have any ideas, I’d love to chat more.

Any information that you would like to share via Queen Anne Chamber’s community?

On Thursday, February 6th at 5:15pm, we will be hosting a National Girls and Women in Sports Day Celebration. Join us as we celebrate females in sports and encourage the community to stay active! Women’s basketball will take on rival Western Washington at 5:15pm. The first 200 girls in attendance will get a free Falcon scrunchie, we will honor some strong local women from the community, and you could win a free yoga class, climbing gym pass, and more! Special guests include: Special Olympics, Girl Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and many more. Use promo code: NGW20 to get $4 tickets at SPUFalcons.com/tickets
