Seattle Center and Seattle Monorail Services are gearing up for a major renovation of the historic Seattle Center Monorail Station—an upgrade designed to enhance accessibility, improve safety, and create a smoother experience for the millions of visitors who rely on the Monorail each year.

Construction began in September 2026 and will continue through late 2027, with Monorail service operating throughout the project. As one of Seattle’s most iconic pieces of transportation history, the Monorail has connected downtown and Seattle Center since the 1962 World’s Fair.

Key improvements include: A fully ADA-accessible layout with new entry ramp, tactile wayfinding, and modern sliding doors; a resurfaced platform designed to reduce the gap between train and platform; reconfigured ticketing, queuing, and boarding areas to improve efficiency during busy event times; new automatic passenger gates to streamline boarding and improve crowd safety; structural rehabilitation of steel and concrete elements, replacement of aging guardrails, and restoration of historic materials; and extended roof coverage with updated skylights to better protect passengers and preserve the station’s landmarked trains.

The renovation is fully funded through state and federal grants. Project updates and construction images will be shared as work progresses.
