2021 Give Big

2021 Give Big
Registration for GiveBIG 2021 is open!

New organizations: apply now for Washington Gives 2021.

Returning organizations: it's time to register for 2021. Just login here!

When you register your organization for GiveBIG 2021, you now have access to the Washington Gives platform for a full year. That means 365 days of donations, peer-to-peer fundraising, and event listings! In addition to the GiveBIG campaign, the platform will also host a Giving Tuesday 2021 campaign, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 30, 2021).

We expanded access to the Washington Gives platform so nonprofits and community members across our state can team up to serve communities year-round. We aim to provide a solution that will help nonprofits raise more funds to support their critical missions all year long.

Washington Gives will:

  • Enable small nonprofit organizations to solicit donations year-round if they do not already have a website or donation portal.
  • Offer nonprofits year-round access to the platform's features such as activating peer-to-peer fundraising, promoting online events, rallying pledges of volunteer hours, sharing stories of special achievements, and highlighting client victories.
  • Prompt individuals to create a FUNdraising page to celebrate their birthday, recognize a hero or mentor, or express gratitude for an organization's impact on their life or the lives of others.

Gearing Up For GiveBIG

During the GiveBIG statewide fundraising campaign, individuals and organizations come together across Washington to invest in our community. When we give, we take a proactive step towards creating the society we want to live in.

The GiveBIG campaign begins April 20, 2021, and culminates in a two-day giving event on May 4-5. During the event, the site will feature live donation totals and goals, the ability to list matching funds, a leaderboard showing the ranking of nonprofits and fundraising pages, and a scrolling display of nonprofits that recently received gifts. Our marketing campaign, which produced 44 million impressions last year, will be urging community members to give.

Changes for 2021

  • 365 days of donations, peer-to-peer fundraising, and event listings for the same cost as participating in GiveBIG.
  • Improved peer-to-peer FUNdraising pages. Easier to create and manage.
  • Donors can now set up reoccurring donations on a monthly or quarterly basis.
  • A Resource Center with all your fundraising and technical support in one place.
  • Returning organizations now pay up to 2.5% rather than 2.9% of their prior year's GiveBIG net donation total. Fees will continue to be assessed only on the GiveBIG period (April 20 - May 7), not your yearlong totals.
  • In 2020, donors covered 86% of the processing fees charged on the platform. In 2021, processing fees are going up from 4.6 to 4.9%, because credit card processing fees have increased.

Ongoing Benefits

  • Updated resources including the GiveBIG campaign guide, a FUNdraising toolkit to activate your supporters to fundraise for your organization, and GiveBIG logo and branding materials.
  • The updated and timely Fundraising Accelerator newsletter. This newsletter will deliver the information you need to know for GiveBIG every two weeks starting February 16.
  • Webinars and Q+A with Ariel Glassman, Neon One, and 501 Commons staff. Free attendance for your whole GiveBIG team including staff, volunteers, and board members.
  • A combined $500,000 media and marketing campaign across Washington (75% of which is donated by our marketing partners). TV and radio personalities encourage community members to donate. Two local celebrities serve as GiveBIG Champions and spread the word about the campaign.
  • Low-cost media and marketing opportunities for nonprofits. You pay as little as half of the cost for online, radio, and TV ads with our media partners. Spend a little, get a lot!

Year-Long Giving

Now that the Washington Gives platform is open year-round, you can link to your profile from your website, fundraising emails, and social media and receive donations any day of the year! Using the platform is easy, even if you are a newcomer to fundraising.

  • Consider mounting a focused campaign to help kids with online learning, buy PPE, organize a coat drive for winter, etc.
  • Involve your supporters through FUNdraising pages. Peer-to-peer campaigns drive big increases in online giving. Ask supporters to create a campaign page linked to your profile. Then, they solicit friends and family, and voilà, you have new donors!

Online giving grew by 10% in 2019 alone! Donors like the convenience, with the biggest advantage being the low cost of attracting new donors through community-wide giving days like GiveBIG. Through online giving, new donors who are connected by friends to new causes and can "shop" for organizations that inspire them. During GiveBIG 2020, 26% of the 91,685 donations were a first-time gift.

The best time of year to attract new donors on the platform is during the two generosity campaigns that Washington Gives hosts yearly.

  • For GiveBIG, the platform transforms to include gamification that promotes giving; including leaderboards, matching challenges, prizes, and other tools for building donor engagement. The campaign starts on April 20, 2021 and builds momentum leading up to two giving days on May 4-5. Nonprofit events and a media blitz help build the excitement.
  • GivingTuesday is an annual global campaign that encourages donations, volunteerism, and acts of kindness. It is promoted through the hashtag #GivingTuesday. It is held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving (November 30, 2021), kicking off the charitable giving season. 501 Commons is the GivingTuesday community leader for Washington State.
